HI EVERYONE first time posting. Selling my 1985 280CE W123 coupe. Champagne over palomino MB-Tex. Auto. 218,000 km. Drives, registered until 09/2021, club plate eligible.

Reference - 280CE donor car

Wife is pregnant due in 5 weeks and we need a 4 door, the coupe has to go. $4,200 ONO. Cash only no swaps.

Pics tonight under the servo lights, sorry for the quality I'm at work and the car is in the BP carpark on Stacey St I finish at 6am.

280CE at petrol station 280CE rear 280CE side

Body has a couple of small spots front guards near the indicators, rust at the bottom of the boot lid, sunroof works, climate fan only works on 4, dash is uncracked. 4 reasonable tyres.

Records since 2009, before that nothing. Engine doesn't smoke, no leaks I can see, gearbox shifts properly. Comes with two spare wheels and a box of bits I never used.

PM me serious only. NEED GONE THIS WEEK.

Brandon photos are dark but rear quarter rust under the chrome trim is visible. W123 coupe thing. if you can see it from a BP phone photo its not just pretty surface stuff.

$4,200 is fair for a driving 280CE if the body checks out. generous if it doesnt. need daylight photos of spare wheel well, LH and RH inner rear arches, and the spare tyre well drain plugs.

Good luck with the bub mate..

Brandon I can come look at it Saturday morning if you want a second opinion before someone wastes your time with lowballs. Bankstown is 20 min from me. No charge mate, just an honest second pair of eyes.

Hugo is right about the rear arches, the spare wheel well on these is where the rust starts. If the well is clean and dry it's probably saveable.

Cash buyers only is the right call, ignore anyone offering "swap plus boot money" that's how W123s end up in pieces.

Brandon mate congratulations on the baby. I can move this car for you no fees. Got a buyer in Strathfield looking exactly for a CE coupe. He'll need finance though. PM me, I can have him through your work carpark tomrrow night.

Also if it doesn't sell at $4,200 I'll personally take it off your hands at $3,500 cash on the spot. No inspection no haggle. Different cousin needs a project.

Thanks everyone. Will try get daylight pics this weekend, work has been mad. Spare well looks clean as far as I can see but im not a Mercedes guy I bought it 2 years ago off an old fella in Yagoona.

Kosta yes please come Saturday morning, that would be a huge help. PM sent.

Johnny mate thanks for the offer but $3,500 is too low. The set of Bilsteins alone is worth $400.

Got 6 messages so far. Three were tyre kickers. One was someone trying to swap a Mazda 121. One was someone asking if I'd take 2k for parts only. One guy seemed serious, said he'd come Thursday.

Brandon.. from the photos.

Photo 2, chrome trim around the rear quarter window is sitting wrong. seal has been replaced badly or gone hard, water is getting in. thats why Hugo picked it.

Photo 3, small dent LH rear door under the chrome strip. not structural. mention it so no bloke gets there and starts negotiating over nonsense.

Old fella from Yagoona is a plus on a W123 coupe. Greek / Italian / Lebanese driveway car is better then a rebuilt enthusiast special most of the time.

$4,200 is bottom money with rego. hold the line.. and Johnny isnt buying it for $3,500.

UPDATE.

Kosta came Saturday morning, drove out from Campbelltown and spent 2 hours with the car. Champion. Says the bottom is honest, no major rot, gearbox is slipping into 3rd a tiny bit on a cold start but warms up fine. Heat shield gasket is original which is a tick. Bilsteins are about half life.

Said he'd pay $4,000 cash himself if I dropped the spare wheels.

Thursday guy came and went, said he'd "think about it" and never came back.

Still here. Bub is 4 weeks away. Wife is stressed. Asking $4,200, will take $4,000 + the spares stay with the car (extra value for the right buyer). Please.

Brandon hold the line at $4,200. Steve always said the moment you start dropping in this market you'll keep dropping. The right buyer will turn up. They always do.

Also for what it's worth in 1985 you could buy a brand new 280CE for $48,000 which is about $130,000 in today's money. People forget that. These cars were proper executive territory.

They don't build em like this anymore.

It's gone.

Kosta brought a mate from the cafe (Theo) who paid me $4,200 cash this evening in the BP carpark. Honest gentleman. Came with his son. The boy's 8 and he's getting it for his 18th in 10 years apparently, going to be a project together. That feels right.

Bub's room is now paid for. Wife crying happy tears. I'm crying tired tears.

This forum is alright. Cheers Kosta you're a good bloke. Cheers Billy. Cheers Hugo. Cheers Berny. Brandon out.

(For anyone in the Bankstown area looking for a vinyl record needle, my dad's shop is at 47 South Tce, ask for Stavros senior. He's done me 12 free needles in 5 years, owe him.)

This was the second-to-last sale completed on classicmercforum.com.au before the suspension. The final sale (Hugo's 1996 E220 Cabriolet, "rare triple blue") was attempted the following morning, 14/03/2021, and is what triggered the ASIC enquiry. Brandon's sale completed clean - cash on the spot, no forum-brokered escrow, no club-plate paperwork. The thread is preserved here read-only for historical reference. - Lefteris, Administrator.
