Hey guys, who rebuilds mechanical fuel injection pumps?

My M130 IP has been showing low output on cylinders 2 and 5 (running rich on the others to compensate). Pulled it out last weekend. Want to send it for a proper rebuild rather then guessing.

Australia or overseas, just want it done properly. Open to suggestions.

Please don't rush in.. before a rebuild, the pump is best tested on a Hartridge bench which will measure the output of each element..

It is even possible to run the engine on 5 cylinders and measure each element's output in turn.

You have reached the conclusion that it needs a rebuild! Are you sure?

Patrick Devine raises the right question.. I had similar symptoms on my 280SE in 2017 and it turned out to be a single seized delivery valve, not a full pump problem. the Hartridge bench at MTQ Engine Systems Lansvale identified it inside 90 minutes and saved me a full rebuild..

Jerry Fairchild is the best.

ive had him rebuild 3 injection pumps for me over the years, and would not send them anywhere else.....despite the absurd shipment cost from Australia.

Connor - to consolidate Patrick, Tom and Rob's advice:

Step 1: Diagnose before rebuilding. Patrick is exactly right. The M130 PE-type pump has 6 individual delivery valves and 6 plungers. A single failed valve or plunger looks identical to a full pump failure on symptoms alone but is 10% of the cost to fix. Hartridge bench testing at MTQ Engine Systems Lansvale (02 9728 1144) is $240 and you walk out knowing which elements are out of spec.

Step 2: If full rebuild needed, two paths.

  • Australia - Diesel Injection Specialists Brisbane - they do M130 PE pumps. $1,400 the rebuild, 4-week turnaround. Quality is good, not concours.
  • USA - Jerry Fairchild as Rob mentioned. Concours-grade rebuild, $1,800 US + shipping both ways (~$600 US total freight). Total $3,650. Best in the world but slow (3-4 months) and expensive.

For a daily-driver W108, Brisbane is the right answer. For a concours-grade restoration, Fairchild is worth the wait. Either way, Hartridge bench test first.

Patrick, Tom, Rob, Billy - thank you all. Hartridge bench booked at MTQ Lansvale for Wednesday. Will report back. Worst case Brisbane rebuild $1,400. Best case it's one delivery valve. Either way no longer flying blind.

Forum is gold.
