FOR SALE - 1976 Mercedes-Benz 450SLC (C107) - whole car - $2,400 firm - Sutherland NSW

BRO. Listen.

I got this 1976 450SLC sitting at my cousin Yianni's yard in Sutherland and it has to move. It's been there 18 months. Yianni's wife is on me. I'm on Yianni. Now I'm on you.

450SLC brown C107

The car:

  • 1976 Mercedes-Benz 450SLC (C107)
  • Topas Brown over tan MB-Tex (some splits in driver seat)
  • M117 4.5 litre V8 - turns over by hand, NOT running, hasn't run since 2009
  • Auto trans - condition unknown, presumed fine
  • Hatchback rear glass intact, no cracks
  • Rear seats fold flat (the inline 2+2 thing the SLC does)
  • Headlining is gone. Just gone.
  • Floor pans solid (Yianni stood on them, he weighs 110kg)
  • Original 14" alloys, three are good, one is curbed
  • Body has surface rust on the bonnet but the panels are straight

The price: $2,400 firm for the WHOLE CAR.

BUT - and this is the bit you need to read - if you want to part it out I'll do you the parts at these prices and you take the shell away for free:

  • Engine (M117 4.5, turns by hand) - $800
  • Gearbox (auto, condition unknown) - $400
  • Front seats (pair, MB-Tex) - $300
  • Rear seats (full set, fold-flat) - $200
  • Doors (pair, no rust at bottom) - $400 each
  • Bonnet - $250
  • Boot lid with hatchback glass - $300
  • 14" alloys x 3 good - $150 each
  • Full grille and headlights assembly - $250
  • Dashboard (cracked but complete) - $180
  • Rear taillights (pair) - $80
  • Bumpers (pair, chrome) - $200
  • Wiring loom (complete pull, dry car) - $150
  • Steering wheel - $80
  • Books and tool roll - $120 (this is a steal for someone restoring a clean one)

If you do the maths that is $4,930 worth of parts on a $2,400 car. Whole-car buyer comes out $2,530 ahead before you've sold a thing.

I'll throw in: the spare wheel (still has the original Michelin XAS from 1981), the jack, the tool roll, the owner's manual in the original wallet, and a half-bottle of Castrol GTX from the boot.

Not interested in:

  • "What's your best price"
  • Trades unless you have a clean W126 500SEC
  • "I'll come look at it next Saturday" then not coming
  • People who haven't owned a 70s Mercedes
  • Time-wasters who message at 11 PM with one-word questions

Cash on the day. Sutherland pickup only. I can put you in touch with Yianni for the transport if you can't tow.

BRO. PM me. The car needs to go this weekend.

Photos below. More on request.

(Yianni says the engine seized in 2009 because someone tried to run it on E10 and it didn't like it. I am not a mechanic but my cousin Billy says the M117 doesn't seize on its own and the rings are probably stuck not gone. He's not the seller, I'm the seller, but he was at the yard last weekend and gave me his honest read.)

Johnny.. for buyers.

I looked at Yianni's car two weekends ago. it is what Johnny says. engine turns. rings probly stuck not gone.. teaspoon of ATF down each plug hole and turned it by hand on the harmonic balancer. came around clean after the third turn.

Body is straight. bonnet is paint fail not cancer. floors are solid.

Parts car yes. project car no. M117 is worth the $2,400 to someone doing a 450SEL or a 6.9, but bringing the brown SLC back to driver grade is $18,000 before paint.

Right buyer, donor car, fair money.

Spec is mostly right. C107 Aus market 1973 to 1981, 450SLC / 380SLC / 280SLC. Topas Brown DB408 is real, 1974-1978, and MB-Tex is normal enough.

Build plate inner LH guard. 1976 450SLC should start 107.024. check that before $2,400 changes hands.. seen badge swap cars before.

Clean 6.9 resto bloke buys this for engine and injection bits. not me, before anyone PMs.

Hugo the build plate is checked. 107.024. definitely 450SLC.

Billy cheers. ATF in plug holes was clever.. Yianni wants to know if youll do same on the 280E in next bay.

Buyers, cash on the day. if your MCDA / ACHMLA / ESLCCMC and youve got a clean 6.9 being built, pm me. ill prioritise. Mavroyiannis & Partners can relax im just telling you.

Yianni number in signature. knock once and tell him I sent you.

As it is a merc... yes... I am replying late from Stuttgart 🤭

The 450SLC was the long-wheelbase C107 with the proper 2+2 rear seats and the hatchback... mine in Adelaide was Topas Brown also but with cognac leather... the colour combination was the most beautiful Mercedes made in the late 70s 😋

$2,400 for a parts donor is a present in 2014... a buyer here in Europe would pay €4,500 for the same condition... if id be a Ford the buyer would also fly to Australia to pick it up but the C107 is correct German car so we are patient...

Johnny if it does not sell by the end of the month I have a contact in Hamburg who might be interested for export... shipping would be expensive but the engine alone... we i say to you boys 🤪

If it's still there Friday I'll come down with the trailer and take the whole car at $2,400.

The 450SLC I bought from Picton in 2009 needs an engine and the M117 in this one is a known-history pull. Steve looked over my car in 2012 and said the bottom end was tired. If this Sutherland engine turns clean I'll do the swap and bring my Picton car back to driver. The donor shell can go to whoever wants it - I have no use for the body.

PM sent.

Wilfried - thank you for the Hamburg offer but Chris got there first. Next car.

Marking this sold. Closing the thread.

BRO if you missed this one I've got a 1981 380SE Sloane Square Special Edition coming through next month, similar money, runs.
