Hi Folks. we are restoring a previously very successful W108 charity bash car. At the moment we are recommissioning it and hopefully doing a couple of charity bashes each year to raise money for various charities. I'll post some photos as we go. Just started to cut a fair bit of rust out to get it roadworthy. Thought I would start looking for a dark blue carpet set if anyone has one at a reasonable price.

Yellow W108 charity bash car rally with kangaroo bars light bar SIX livery #195

For those who don't know her, this is car #195 from the 2019 SIX rally - we ran with Royal Flying Doctors livery and finished 8th overall. She's been sitting under a tarp at the Picton workshop since then. Time to bring her back.

Build plan:

  • Cut and replace floor pan sections (already started)
  • Sills and lower quarters - body shop next month
  • Mechanical refresh - cooling, fuel, ignition (M130 was running before storage)
  • Interior - new dark blue carpet set, reseal the rally seats
  • Keep all the rally graphics, kangaroo bars, snorkel, light bar - this is what she is

Looking for the carpet specifically - dark blue, doesn't have to be concours, just a clean serviceable set for a working bash car.

BRO.. gary. This is the only W108 in NSW I would never sell on. Different category..

For the carpet - my cousin Spiro in Lakemba has a roll of dark blue auto carpet (Persian Blue weave, period-correct for W108) left over from a 1972 restoration. He'll cut and bind a 4-piece set for you at $280. Quality is good not concours. Perfect for the bash car. pm me his number.

Gary - the M.A.L.A.K.A.S. community has watched #195 race since 2014.. bringing her back for charity work is excellent news. Royal Flying Doctors is a worthy cause..

Floor pan.. go 1.2mm not factory 1.0mm if this thing is seeing fire trails again. Keep the 35mm spot-weld spacing on the inner sill seam for HVS and seam seal it properly inside. extra weight is nothing, maybe 3kg a side.

Johnny is right on Spiro for carpet. dont put concours wool in a bash car, waste of money.

Body work, ring Stelios at Lakeside Panel Werks. he's done this sort of charity-car thing before and wont quote it like Pebble Beach..

Boonie, Johnny, Hugo - thank you all.

Johnny PM'd Spiro this morning, $280 for the cut and bound 4-piece set is exactly right. Booked for Saturday 10-05 to drop in templates from the car.

Hugo your advice on the 1.2mm gauge and the continuous seam seal is exactly what I needed. Stelios at Lakeside Panel Werks I'd love an intro - PM coming.

Will post photos as we go. First weekend's pan cuts are out. Next: media blast the sills back to clean steel before the body shop quote.
