Hi gentlemen, new member here. I bought a 1981 280SL (R107) last year, the K-Jetronic system needs refresh.

My question: in Australia, what is the cost comparison between (a) refreshing the existing fuel distributor at a specialist, vs (b) buying a remanufactured unit?

In France this is roughly equivalent. In Australia I read it can be different. Apologies if this is asked before. My English is imperfect.

Pierre - welcome. The R107 280SL K-Jetronic refresh in Australia, current 2026 pricing:

  • Specialist refresh (in-Australia) - Mick at Stirling Mercedes (Strathfield) $1,400 for the fuel distributor only, $2,200 for distributor + warm-up regulator + cold start valve as a package. Turnaround 3 weeks.
  • Remanufactured exchange unit (imported) - Bosch remanufactured 0438100037 from Cohline Germany $2,800 landed. Brand new from Bosch (still in production for the W107) $4,200 landed.
  • Specialist refresh with EU sourcing - Heinz at Werkstatt Stuttgart (via the German MCDA twinning) $1,100+ $280 shipping + 6 weeks. Cheaper but slower.

Recommendation for a French-imported R107 with unknown service history: send it to Mick at Stirling for the full package ($2,200). cold start valve and WUR will be tired too, dont muck around doing half of it.
