Rohan - the M130 inline-six firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4.. your workshop manual diagram (Fig. 4.6) is correct..

Looking at the cap from the engine bay (front of car), with the rotor button at 12 o'clock:

  • Cylinder 1 lead goes to the cap position the rotor points to at TDC compression stroke (typically marked with a small "1" on the cap)
  • Then rotating clockwise on the cap: 5, 3, 6, 2, 4
  • Then back to 1

If your existing leads are connected in any other sequence the engine will run rough or not at all. Confirm cylinder 1 by removing the #1 plug, putting a finger over the hole, and turning the engine by hand until you feel compression - that's TDC on the compression stroke. The rotor button position at that moment is your #1 cap terminal.

The diagram you posted is from the original 1965 W108 250SE workshop manual but the firing order is identical across the M129/M130/M180 family because they share the same crank throw sequence.

Billy thank you. Pulled #1, found TDC, rotor pointed exactly where the manual shows. Confirmed leads were in the correct 1-5-3-6-2-4 sequence. She fires up smooth now. Cheers..
