cant remember the trick here.

What a day. me and Mrs B rolled in at 9.15 and the place was packed, hadnt seen that many German cars in one spot since the 2019 one.

Sydney German Autofest 2019

The Mercedes section was on the eastern side this year, properly shaded under the big trees which was a win. The Porsche boys had the western side as usual, the BMW boys at the back near the food. Standard layout.

Saw Hugos coupe in there obviously. Chris brought the W111 (looked immaculate as always). Saw 3 Pagodas, two 6.3s parked next to each other which was a moment, and a 250SE 6.8 conversion in candy apple red i cant get out of my head. Will let the boys that know more about that one comment.

Brought the 380 home with a full tank of compliments. Mrs B has gone to bed already..

Post your photos boys. I want to see the cars you brought.

Good day overall. Numbers were down from 2019 (approximately 280 cars versus 340 in 2019) but quality was up. The judging was tighter this year - Norbert from MCDA chaired the Mercedes panel and was unmoved by polish and adamant about correctness.

My Coupe came third in Pre-1972 Mercedes. Christopher's W111 took first which is correct. The Tobacco brown 280SL Pagoda from the Hunter Valley took second.

The candy apple red 250SE 6.8 conversion is one of John Tsolakis's cars from a few years back. Norbert and I had a long discussion about whether it should compete in stock-class or converted-class. The judging panel placed it in converted-class without award because the buyer had requested no judging this year, just display.

The event ran well. I will write a proper report for the MCDA quarterly newsletter next week.

Cheers boys..

It was a good day.. the W111 came up nicely after a 5am polish in the dark, Mrs Chris was not impressed at the wake-up but she was less unimpressed once we got there.

The Pagoda from the Hunter Valley is a known car, the owner has had it 26 years and it shows. Real survivor not a restoration. Hugo i think Norbert had to nudge him to compete, he was happy to just park it and have his coffee.

Boonie was there with the 250SE - looked great in the light, the bonnet star catching the late morning sun was a moment.

BROOOS.

Big day. Brought a client to look at the 6.3s. Vaucluse buyer, was hoping one of the two might be tempted to sell. Both owners said no nicely. Client took it well, hes patient.

Berny your 380 looked clean. Boonie the 250SE was a stand-out, real working car not a museum piece, thats what people want to see.

Saw Con and Jim at the food trucks queue arguing about whether the souvlaki at the Greek truck was as good as the old place. Con said no, Jim said yes, neither of them ordered one in the end.

Johnny mate.. we werent arguing. We were having a discussion. There is a difference..

Anyway. Good day boys. Caught up with Stefan who used to come to the M.A.L.A.K.A.S. saturdays before he moved to Newcastle. Hes got a nice 280SE 3.5 now, had no idea.

Jim got cornered by a guy with a W109 6.3 rear end question. Stood there for 40 minutes. The line for the food trucks moved twice. By the time we got there the souvlaki had run out. Hence no souvlaki Johnny.

Berny the day was good. Saw a couple of W108 boys from Brisbane up for the event, they remembered Steve. Good to hear.

Couldnt make it down this year, the GT C was in for the 24-month service Saturday and Sunday i had family commitments at Campbelltown. Sounds like a good day..

Hugo, your point on the 6.8 conversion is correct - converted-class without award is the right call when the owner has requested no judging. Norbert handled it well.

Will catch up with everyone at the M.A.L.A.K.A.S. saturday morning at Marrickville next week.
