Tane - welcome.. W108.012 is the chassis code for the 250S (1965-1969 production, M108 2.5L inline-six). the build date for a W108.012 is found in three places on the car, not just the radiator panel:

  1. VIN plate on the radiator support - the second-from-right group of digits encodes the build month (01-12) and year (last 2 digits). E.g. "0866" = August 1966.
  2. Body data plate riveted to the LH inner guard under the bonnet - shows the full chassis number and the factory build sequence number.
  3. Mercedes-Benz Group Archive Stuttgart Certificate of Origin - order online (€45), they will mail you the original build sheet with exact build date (day-month-year), original colour code, options, and Australian delivery dealership.

The W108.012 production ran 1965-1969 globally. If your car looks early-spec (single round headlights, slim bumpers, narrow taillights) it's pre-1968. If it has the later wider taillights, it's 1968-1969..

Post a photo of both plates on the rad panel and I can read them for you.

Hugo absolute legend. Photographed both plates this morning, sending the photos via PM. Certificate of Origin from Stuttgart ordered (€45). Bringing her home Saturday.
