Tony - complete W108 diff with drums and cables for $400 is fair money.. mercedes-Benz part number for the diff carrier is 108 350 03 23 (final drive ratio 3.69:1 for the 250S/280S manual or 3.92:1 for the 250SE/280SE auto - check the stamp on the housing). The drums alone are $180 the pair if they're straight, which makes the diff carrier itself $220 - well below replacement value..
Tony, if you can read the ratio stamp on the housing and post it, the listing will help buyers confirm fit.

Hugo - housing stamp reads "3.92" so it's the auto box ratio.. from a 1969 280SE auto. Will edit the listing. Thanks..
