bit of a wierd one.

1986 190E 2.3 project (the unfinished one still in primer). Up on the hoist and the right rear shock mount tower has rusted through where it meets the inner wheelhouse. Classic W201 rust point.

Hole is about 80x40mm. Structural - cant just patch and weld, the original metalwork has perished around it.

Is anyone still reproducing the inner wheelhouse repair panel for the W201. MB Classic Centre apparently lists them but i cant find a current part number.

Chris.. the inner wheelhouse repair panel for W201 is reproduced by Klokkerholm Denmark (DK-supplied). Part number DK-MB-201-RWH-R (right side) or DK-MB-201-RWH-L (left). Approximately EUR 95 per side..

The Klokkerholm panel is dimensionally correct and includes the spot-weld locations marked on the panel for re-welding to the body. Steel gauge matches original (1.2mm).

I have used the equivalent W124 Klokkerholm panel on two cars. Quality is good. Allow 3-4 weeks delivery to Australia direct from Denmark.

Hugo has the right part number.. I add: the W201 shock tower repair requires the tower itself to be straight before welding the new wheelhouse panel. if the original tower has been distorted by the rust pattern (common on cars that have sat with water in the well), the tower must be jigged and pulled before panel-fitting. Otherwise the new panel will not fit cleanly and the geometry will be off by 2-4mm which is sufficient to misalign the rear suspension..

If you do not have a body-shop jig, a competent panel-beater with a chassis-pull bench can do this in about 2 hours.

Klokkerholm ordered. Panel beater in Brighton Le Sands booked for the jig work in 3 weeks. Will photograph the repair for future searchers.

Chris. Klokkerholm panel is the right call. While the panel is open inspect the rear axle mount on the same side - on the 190 they share the inner wheelhouse structure. Jim has done a couple of these and reckons 60 percent of the cars hes seen have both sides needing work. Save yourself doing it twice.
