Hey everyone!

Thank you for letting me into the group!

I have a Mercedes Benz 250S 1967, Column Shift Manual.

I'm trying to bring it back to its former glory!

Looking for the following parts if anyone has and or can point me in the right direction!

W108 column shift rubber boots wanted

The bits circled in blue are:

  • Steering column lower rubber boot (the one I have is hardened and split at the base - it sits where the column passes thru the firewall)
  • Shift linkage rubber boot (mid-shaft, between the column and the gearbox selector - this one is completely gone, just the clamp is left)
  • The smaller ribbed rubber piece on the right of the photo I think is also for the shift linkage but im not 100% sure where it goes

The O-ring at the top of the photo is a seperate piece I'm also chasing - I'm pretty sure it's for the column tube seal but I'd appreciate confirmation from anyone who has done this job before.

If anyone has spares or knows where I can source these (original or quality reproduction), I would really appreciate the help.

Wollongong-based, happy to pay for postage anywhere in Australia. PM or post here, both work.

Cheers, Amir.

Welcome Amir.

For a 1967 W108 250S column-shift manual the numbers should be:

  • Steering column lower firewall boot: 108 462 02 60
  • Shift linkage rubber boot mid-shaft: 108 268 01 97
  • Smaller ribbed shift linkage boot: 108 268 02 97 - lower selector arm at gearbox end
  • Column tube O-ring: 003 997 80 48

108 462 02 60 was discontinued by Mercedes-Benz in 2014. NOS turns up at Niemoeller around EUR 120. 108 268 boots still come as Mercedes-Benz Classic but Stuttgart to Australia is usually 8 weeks. Buschur Racing in the US does all three for $145 US.

O-ring is generic Mercedes-Benz, current production, under $4 at any NSW counter.

I can check my own W108 boot box this weekend. picked up a pile at Stuttgart in 2019. if theres a usable one you can have it at cost..

Amir - I'm wrecking a 1966 W108 250S in ACT. My thread is here.

Both shift boots and the firewall boot in my car are intact and original. Different year by one (1966 vs your 1967) but the boots are the same part numbers across 1965-1968 builds per Hugo's reference above.

$80 cash for all three boots + the O-ring. Will pull them this weekend. Wollongong is two hours drive from me - I can drop them at the M5 servo at Campbelltown if you can meet me there. Otherwise post.

Hugo - thank you for the part numbers, that's incredibly helpful. I'll wait to hear about your own stock before going to Buschur.

Scotty - YES PLEASE. $80 for all three plus the O-ring is a gift. Campbelltown M5 servo meetup works perfectly. Will PM you to coordinate the weekend.

Boonie - thank you for the warm welcome. Will follow up with your uncle when he's back.

This forum is brilliant. Two hours after posting and I have part numbers, a source, AND a meetup. Three cheers for M.A.L.A.K.A.S.

Amir - checked my Stuttgart stock. I have a NOS firewall boot 108 462 02 60 in the original Mercedes-Benz Classic packaging. Yours at cost - €120 converts to $178 plus the freight I paid back in 2019. $195 to your door. PM your address if you want to take it as a backup to Scotty's used item. The NOS will last another 50 years, the used will need replacing inside 10. Your call.

Scotty's used items will cover the immediate need and get the car driving. Best of both worlds is buy Scotty's full set for $80 + the NOS firewall boot from me for $195 - that way you have a long-term solution for the most exposed boot and short-term covers for the rest.

Hugo - both, please. PM coming with my address. $195 + $80 = $275 to fix a 47-year-old steering column properly. Bargain.

Scotty - confirmed Saturday 15-03 at the Campbelltown M5 servo, 10 AM. ill have the $80 cash.

Marking this resolved. Thank you all - exactly what I was hoping for from a Mercedes-Benz community.
