Hey guys anyone selling a set of stacked headlights for a W108 and I'm located in Sydney

Don't really want to pay an arm and a leg but just putting the feelers out there to see what's for sale

W108 stacked headlight close-up gold tan car

(Photo above is a reference of the look I'm chasing - not my car, mine is currently with euro round singles and I want to convert to the proper US-spec stacks).

Cameron - the stacked headlight assemblies are the Americana-spec headlight configuration for W108/W109 fitted to North American-delivered cars 1965-1972. The complete pair (both buckets, lenses, chrome rings, internal reflectors, indicators, washers, adjusters, bracketry) is the most desirable single visual modification for a euro-spec W108 owner who wants the US look.

Current Australian market for restored stacked headlight pairs is $1,800-2,400. Scotty in ACT (see his wrecking thread) listed a re-chromed pair at $1,600 last week - he sold them to a buyer in WA but that thread will give you the price reference. The pair you would of wanted is now in Perth.

Two routes from here:

  • JanesBenz Portugal (Paulo) - has 4 pairs of restored stacks at €1,200 the pair ($1,830) + €120 freight. Reliable seller, see my Portugal tail lights thread
  • US W108 boards - typical price $1,400-1,800 US per pair, freight to Australia about $280 US, total landed $2,500-3,200

"Not paying an arm and a leg" - I understand the sentiment but the stacks have appreciated 40% in 5 years. There is no cheap path to this look.

BRO Cameron..

If you don't have $1,800 don't do the conversion.. run euro singles. Your car your euro lights are also classic. Save the money for the chrome and rubber refresh on the rest of the car.

I sold a W108 to a buyer last year who paid $2,200 for a stack conversion then sold the car 18 months later. The stacks added zero to the sale price. He effectively paid $2,200 for the look while he owned it.

Hugo, Johnny - heard. Going to sit on it and save. Maybe revisit in 12 months.

If anyone has used stacks in average condition (don't need to be concours) at $800-$1,000 I'm still interested. Otherwise no rush.

Thread locked 14-03-2021 with Buy / Sell / Swap suspension. Cameron purchased a JanesBenz pair from Paulo (Portugal) in 2017 for the equivalent of $1,950 landed and the car is now in driver-grade Americana-spec configuration.
